🧮 Quantitative Aptitude Questions (15 with Solutions)

Question 1: Simplification

Q: Simplify: (45 × 28) ÷ 12 + 85 - 47 = ?

Solution: = (1260) ÷ 12 + 85 - 47 = 105 + 85 - 47 = 190 - 47 = 143

Question 2: Percentage

Q: If 60% of A is equal to 40% of B, then A:B is equal to:

Solution: 60% of A = 40% of B 0.60A = 0.40B A/B = 0.40/0.60 = 4/6 = 2/3

A:B = 2:3

Shortcut: Cross multiply percentages: A:B = 40:60 = 2:3 Answer: 2:3

Question 3: Profit & Loss

Q: A shopkeeper marks his goods 40% above the cost price and allows a discount of 25%. What is his gain percent?

Solution: Let CP = ₹100 Marked Price = ₹140 SP after 25% discount = 140 × 75/100 = ₹105

Gain = 105 - 100 = ₹5 Gain% = 5/100 × 100 = 5%

Shortcut Formula: If marked x% above and discount y%, then gain% = x - y - (xy/100) = 40 - 25 - (40×25/100) = 40 - 25 - 10 = 5% Answer: 5%

Question 4: Average

Q: The average age of 30 students is 12 years. When the teacher's age is included, the average becomes 13 years. Find the teacher's age.

Solution: Sum of students' ages = 30 × 12 = 360 Sum including teacher = 31 × 13 = 403

Teacher's age = 403 - 360 = 43 years

Shortcut: Teacher's age = New average + (n × difference in average) = 13 + (30 × 1) = 43 years Answer: 43 years

Question 5: Ratio & Proportion

Q: The ratio of boys to girls in a school is 7:5. If there are 840 boys, find the total number of students.

Solution: Boys:Girls = 7:5 7 parts = 840 1 part = 840/7 = 120

Girls = 5 × 120 = 600 Total students = 840 + 600 = 1,440

Question 6: Simple Interest

Q: A sum of money doubles itself in 8 years at simple interest. In how many years will it triple itself?

Solution: Let Principal = P Amount after 8 years = 2P SI = P

Rate = (SI × 100)/(P × T) = (P × 100)/(P × 8) = 12.5% per annum

For amount to become 3P: SI needed = 2P Time = (SI × 100)/(P × R) = (2P × 100)/(P × 12.5) = 200/12.5 = 16 years

Shortcut: Double in 8 years → Triple in 16 years (add 8 more years) Answer: 16 years

Question 7: Compound Interest

Q: The compound interest on a sum at 10% per annum for 2 years is ₹840. What is the simple interest on the same sum at the same rate for double the time?

Solution: Let Principal = P CI = P[(1 + 10/100)² - 1] = P[1.21 - 1] = 0.21P = 840 P = 840/0.21 = ₹4,000

SI for 4 years = (4000 × 10 × 4)/100 = ₹1,600

Question 8: Time & Work

Q: 12 men can complete a work in 15 days. After working for 5 days, 6 more men join them. How many more days will it take to complete the work?

Solution: Total work = 12 × 15 = 180 man-days Work done in 5 days = 12 × 5 = 60 man-days Remaining work = 180 - 60 = 120 man-days

Now total men = 12 + 6 = 18 Days required = 120/18 = 6.67 days ≈ 7 days

Question 9: Time & Distance

Q: A car travels the first half of a journey at 60 km/hr and the second half at 40 km/hr. What is the average speed for the entire journey?

Solution: Average speed = 2xy/(x+y) [when distances are equal] = 2 × 60 × 40/(60 + 40) = 4800/100 = 48 km/hr

Question 10: Mensuration

Q: The length and breadth of a rectangle are increased by 20% and 30% respectively. What is the percentage increase in area?

Solution: Original area = L × B New area = 1.2L × 1.3B = 1.56LB

Increase = 1.56LB - LB = 0.56LB Percentage increase = 56%

Shortcut: 20 + 30 + (20×30)/100 = 50 + 6 = 56% Answer: 56%

Question 11: Partnership

Q: A and B start a business with investments of ₹36,000 and ₹45,000 respectively. After 6 months, C joins with ₹54,000. If the annual profit is ₹38,500, find C's share.

Solution: Ratio of investments: A: 36000 × 12 = 4,32,000 B: 45000 × 12 = 5,40,000 C: 54000 × 6 = 3,24,000

Ratio = 432:540:324 = 12:15:9 = 4:5:3

C's share = (3/12) × 38500 = ₹9,625

Question 12: Number Series

Q: Find the missing number: 3, 8, 15, 24, 35, ?, 63

Solution: Pattern: 2²-1, 3²-1, 4²-1, 5²-1, 6²-1, 7²-1, 8²-1 = 4-1, 9-1, 16-1, 25-1, 36-1, 49-1, 64-1

Missing number = 48

Question 13: Data Interpretation

Q: The pie chart shows the distribution of students in a college. If Science stream has 450 students and represents 30% of total, how many students are in Arts if it represents 25%?

Solution: 30% = 450 students 1% = 450/30 = 15 students

Arts (25%) = 25 × 15 = 375 students

Question 14: Boats & Streams

Q: A boat can travel 30 km upstream in 5 hours. If the speed of the stream is 2 km/hr, find the speed of the boat in still water.

Solution: Upstream speed = 30/5 = 6 km/hr Speed of boat - Speed of stream = 6 Speed of boat - 2 = 6 Speed of boat = 8 km/hr

Question 15: Mixtures

Q: A mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 5:1. If 12 liters of the mixture is replaced with water, the ratio becomes 3:1. What was the original quantity of the mixture?

Solution: Let original mixture = 6x liters Milk = 5x, Water = x

12 liters removed: Milk removed = 12 × 5/6 = 10 liters Water removed = 2 liters

Remaining: Milk = 5x - 10, Water = x - 2 + 12 = x + 10

New ratio: (5x - 10)/(x + 10) = 3/1 5x - 10 = 3x + 30 2x = 40 x = 20

Original mixture = 6x = 120 liters
