Quantitative Aptitude Questions with Solutions

Question 1: Number System

Problem: Find the LCM of 12, 18, and 24.

Solution: Prime factorization: 12 = 2² × 3 18 = 2 × 3² 24 = 2³ × 3

LCM = 2³ × 3² = 8 × 9 = 72

Question 2: Percentage

Problem: If 25% of a number is 75, find the number.

Solution: Let the number be x 25% of x = 75 0.25x = 75 x = 75/0.25 x = 300

Question 3: Profit and Loss

Problem: A man buys a watch for ₹500 and sells it for ₹600. Find the profit percentage.

Solution: CP = ₹500 SP = ₹600 Profit = SP - CP = 600 - 500 = ₹100

Profit % = (Profit/CP) × 100 = (100/500) × 100 = 20%

Question 4: Simple Interest

Problem: At what rate percent per annum will ₹4000 amount to ₹4600 in 3 years?

Solution: Principal = ₹4000 Amount = ₹4600 Interest = 4600 - 4000 = ₹600 Time = 3 years

SI = (P × R × T)/100 600 = (4000 × R × 3)/100 600 = 120R R = 5%

Question 5: Average

Problem: The average of 7 numbers is 25. If each number is multiplied by 3, find the new average.

Solution: If each number is multiplied by 3, the average is also multiplied by 3.

New average = 25 × 3 = 75

Question 6: Ratio and Proportion

Problem: The ratio of boys to girls in a school is 4:5. If there are 800 boys, find the number of girls.

Solution: Boys : Girls = 4 : 5

If 4 parts = 800 Then 1 part = 800/4 = 200

Girls = 5 parts = 5 × 200 = 1000

Question 7: Time and Work

Problem: 12 men can complete a work in 8 days. How many men are needed to complete the same work in 6 days?

Solution: Using the formula: M₁ × D₁ = M₂ × D₂

12 × 8 = M₂ × 6 96 = 6M₂ M₂ = 16

Question 8: Speed and Distance

Problem: A car travels at 60 km/hr. How much distance will it cover in 15 minutes?

Solution: Time = 15 minutes = 15/60 hour = 1/4 hour

Distance = Speed × Time Distance = 60 × (1/4) Distance = 15 km

Question 9: Area

Problem: Find the area of a triangle with base 12 cm and height 8 cm.

Solution: Area = (1/2) × base × height Area = (1/2) × 12 × 8 Area = 48 cm²

Question 10: Volume

Problem: Find the volume of a cylinder with radius 7 cm and height 10 cm.

Solution: Volume = πr²h Volume = (22/7) × 7 × 7 × 10 Volume = 22 × 7 × 10 Volume = 1540 cm³

Question 11: Algebra

Problem: If x = 2, find the value of x³ - 3x² + 2x + 5.

Solution: Substituting x = 2: = 2³ - 3(2)² + 2(2) + 5 = 8 - 3(4) + 4 + 5 = 8 - 12 + 4 + 5 = 5

Question 12: Trigonometry

Problem: Find the value of sin² 30° + cos² 30°.

Solution: Using the identity: sin² θ + cos² θ = 1

Therefore, sin² 30° + cos² 30° = 1

Question 13: Statistics

Problem: Find the mean of: 12, 15, 18, 21, 24.

Solution: Mean = Sum of observations / Number of observations Mean = (12 + 15 + 18 + 21 + 24) / 5 Mean = 90 / 5 Mean = 18

Question 14: Compound Interest

Problem: Find the compound interest on ₹2000 at 10% per annum for 2 years.

Solution: Amount = P(1 + R/100)ⁿ Amount = 2000(1 + 10/100)² Amount = 2000 × (1.1)² Amount = 2000 × 1.21 Amount = ₹2420

CI = Amount - Principal CI = 2420 - 2000 = ₹420

Question 15: Divisibility

Problem: Which of the following is divisible by 9? (a) 12345 (b) 23456 (c) 34567 (d) 45648

Solution: A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 9.

(a) 1+2+3+4+5 = 15 (not divisible by 9) (b) 2+3+4+5+6 = 20 (not divisible by 9) (c) 3+4+5+6+7 = 25 (not divisible by 9) (d) 4+5+6+4+8 = 27 (divisible by 9)

Reasoning Questions with Solutions

Question 1: Series Completion

Problem: Find the next term: 2, 5, 11, 23, 47, ?

Solution: Pattern: Multiply by 2 and add 1 2 × 2 + 1 = 5 5 × 2 + 1 = 11 11 × 2 + 1 = 23 23 × 2 + 1 = 47 47 × 2 + 1 = 95

Question 2: Coding-Decoding

Problem: If 'ARMY' is coded as 'CQOA', how is 'NAVY' coded?

Applying to NAVY: N→P, A→C, V→X, Y→A

Question 3: Analogy

Problem: Soldier : Uniform :: Doctor : ?

Solution: A soldier wears a uniform. Similarly, a doctor wears a white coat/apron.

Solution: Visualizing:

  • Start at (0,0), walk 20 m North → (0, 20)
  • Turn right (East), walk 15 m → (15, 20)
  • Turn right (South), walk 20 m → (15, 0)

Distance from origin (0,0) to (15,0) = 15 m
